Me and Merlin
Me and Merlin

Well I am back at Blogging 101 once again!  I have taken this course several times and even though I thought I was signing up for the Longreads Course this time, here I am.  I must admit I have always gotten something valuable out of any and all the courses I have taken with Word Press.  So I will do my best to learn and contribute something while I am here.  Luck and success to all my fellow bloggers!

So glad to be back at Blogging 101

As once again I take up my pen

I hope you like my writing and poems

As I put out the effort once more

To follow the prompts as best I can

And read others blogs and comment on them.

A Christmas Poem

Mother at Christmas at my sister's house
Mother at Christmas at my sister’s house

A Christmas Poem

Lattes and cookies and kitties with whiskers

Shopping for new clothes all a twitter

When the snow falls, when the cats meow

Brings a smile to my face somehow

When the wind blows and the rain falls

I  find myself shopping at malls.

Cheeks are red and noses like cherries

Sweets are abundant, including the berries

The bears and cubs are now hibernating

As the world is slowly vibrating

Christmas season has passed and then

Another year will begin again.

Elegy For My Sister

She was the youngest of us

Together we numbered four

She had a smile for everyone

Her endearing ways I remember

In fact, I will never forget

The times gone by and the times we had

We never will see again

Her body is gone but her spirit lives on

To keep us in good cheer

I’ll never forget what joy she brought

To those of us who knew her

All the time she was here.

This Elegy is for my sister, who passed on in October of this year.  She will be missed.

The Topography Of Where I Grew Up

Coal Mining Region

It was an anthracite coal mining town

I would often walk around

And sometime it seemed to me

The ground would give out you see

A big hole would  appear

I’d just stand there and stare

And wonder about the possibility

Of falling into the hole and never be

Seen again forever and a day

It somehow never happened quite that way

I was destined to live a long and eventful life

In spite of all the worries, trials and strife.

These are a few of my favorite things…….

Day 2 of Writing 101:  Make a list of things you like. Or write a poem about the things you like.

Lattes and cookies and kitties with whiskers

Shopping for new clothes and animal litters

When the rain falls, when the cats meow

Brings a smile to my face somehow

When the wind blows and the snow falls

I  then find myself shopping at malls.

The Autumn leaves in the wind blowing

Colors so vibrant, then comes the snowing

The bears and cubs are hibernating

As the world is slowly vibrating

Another season has passed and then

Another year will begin again.

A Sonnet For The Last Day

Me and Merlin
Me and Merlin

When I was young I traveled far

Over land and sometimes sea

But even though I had no car

I  traveled very happily.

I danced every night until the wee hours

Of wine I tasted it all

I was constantly bestowed with flowers

I did not think that I would fall.

While pleasures were  many in my past

The joy that I knew was fleeting

My friends told me it could not last

Soon pain I would be meeting.

In the end I met all my fears

I was all alone and also in tears.

Last Day of class:  A Sonnet, Pleasure and Apostrophe

Not sure I got the Apostrophe right.

It’s a bittersweet day, I am happy it is over and sad that

it is over.  Thanks everyone for a fun ride.

An Elegy to Coffee

I loved it so during my youth

But I certainly have to tell the truth

It made my life happy for a while

Until the day I forgot to smile

Now I can not have it evermore

The aroma, the flavor, the taste galore

The cries and the moans do no good

I’d love to have it if only I could

But if I did, my belly would ache

So I have to renege, for my own sake.

Thought I’d try the elegiac couplets here.

Let me know what you think.

The Gift

My, he was a gift so fine

Even though I picked him out

Really, for myself one time

Loved him so but he had to leave

I miss him very much, you know

Now when I’m alone, the tears flow.

Ocean scene

Ocean scene

The word for today in Poetry 101:  Rehab is Hiatus;

Hiatus comes from the Latin  Hiare, to yawn,

Also a break in an object:  GAP, or a lapse in continuity

We in the West consider a hiatus a break in our mundane lives and all that entails.  A time to study or a vacation of sorts.

I took a hiatus from heartache and ills

To read and relax and gaze at the hills

And for a time, all was well

But soon enough I was bored as hell

“Be active, you fool,” a voice seemed to cry

“Soon you”ll be ashes: You don’t have to try.”
